Automotive Oscilloscope Applications

GMTO is a Dutch company that develops and gives courses in the area of motor management systems and other car electronics. The emphasis lies on effective trouble shooting in these systems when a car has a problem. The courses of GMTO therefore mainly focus on diagnosis.

For this purpose, GMTO has developed a complete system, ATIS, what stands for Automotive Test and Information System. This system contains a large database with relevant information of all common car brands and models. This concerns electrical schematics, component locations, measurement values, diagnosis descriptions, but also example signals and a direct coupling between motor management system data and the mesaurement system. GMTO sells this system as complete package, including measuring instrument, for the automotive branche. Besides selling it, GMTO also uses ATIS during their courses.

For measuring instruments, GMTO has chosen for the ATS5000 and the ATS5004D. These are two automotive oscilloscopes which are based on the TiePie engineering Handyscope HS3 and the Handyscope HS4 DIFF. Specifically for the automotive applications, some features have been added to the instruments. The software for these instruments has been adapted for the extra features and can be called directly from ATIS.

Besides giving courses, GMTO offers their customers the possibility to use the know-how of GMTO on problem cars they cannot fix self. GMTO has a telephone help desk for technical support in problem searching in cars. When the phone assistance doesn't lead to fixing the car, the car can, as an ultimate solution, be brought to GMTO. GMTO will then examine the car and give a repair advice to the customer. Below are listed articles that describe trouble shooting such cars.
