1 - The Handyscope HS3 is not yet installed on the computer

Before the Handyscope HS3 is connected to the computer, first the software has to be installed. The software can be found on the CDROM that came with the Handyscope HS3, or can be downloaded from our web site.

During installation, please follow the instructions on the screen. Depending on the Windows version, a reboot may be required at the end of the installation.

Continue at step 3.

2 - The Handsycope HS3 was already installed on the computer

There are already drivers installed, that need to be removed before the new driver can be installed. This is taken care of by the installation utility of the new software.

To remove the old driver successfully, it is essential that the Handyscope HS3 is disconnected from the computer, prior to starting the install utility. When the Handyscope HS3 is used with an external power supply, this must be disconnected too.

The new software for the Handyscope HS3 can now be installed. The software can be found on the CDROM that came with the Handyscope HS3, or can be downloaded from our web site.

During installation, please follow the instructions on the screen. Depending on the Windows version, a reboot may be required at the end of the installation.

Continue at step 3.

3 - Connecting the Handsycope HS3 to the computer

When the new software and the new driver have been downloaded from the web site, the driver zip-file must be unpacked first and the contents must be placed in a (temporary) folder on the computer.

Only when Step 1 or Step 2 is executed, the Handyscope HS3 can be connected to the computer.

When the Handyscope HS3 is connected to a USB port of the computer, Windows will report new hardware.

The found New Hardware Wizard will appear. The wizard will request for the location where the drivers can be found. The appearance of the dialogs will differ for each windows version and might be different on the computer where the Handyscope HS3 is installed.

This window will only be shown in Windows XP SP2 or newer. There are no drivers for the Handyscope HS3 on the Windows Update Web site, so select "No, not this time" and click Next.

If the new drivers are installed from the CDROM, please insert the TiePie software CD in the CDROM drive of your computer. Select Install from a list or specific location and click Next >.

Now a location for the drivers has to be specified:

Select Search for the best driver and check Include this location. Use the Browse button to browse to the location where the new driver is found. When installing from the CDROM, this is the folder DriversHS3 on the TiePie software CD. When installing downloaded drivers, this is the folder where the driver zip-file was unpacked. Then click Next >.

Windows will now report that it has found the Handyscope HS3. Windows XP will report that the driver is not certified and warn for possible danger.

The driver is not causing any danger for your system and can be safely installed.

Click Continue Anyway to install this driver.

Windows will now install the drivers for the Handyscope HS3. When the installation is complete, Windows will report:

The driver is built up in two stages. Stage 1 is installed now. Installation of stage 2 follows immediately and requires the same steps as stage one.

When stage 2 is installed, the Handyscope HS3 is now known in Windows and ready to use.

When the computer is equiped with more USB ports, and the Handyscope HS3 is plugged in in a different USB port, Windows will treat the Handyscope HS3 as different hardware and will ask to install the drivers again. This is controlled by Microsoft Windows and is not caused by TiePie engineering.
