Why does the software not find my Handyscope HS3/HS4/HS4 DIFF anymore after restarting the computer?

Q

Each time when I have switched off my computer, the next time I start it again, the software does not find my Handyscope HS3 / Handyscope HS4 / Handyscope HS4 DIFF anymore. Windows does list it properly in the available hardware, but I cannot use it anymore. When I unplug and reconnect the instrument, the software will recognize it. What do I do wrong?

A

The computer was probably not switched off, but put into stand-by or hibernation. This causes the peripherals on the USB to be switched into stand-by or hibernation as well.

When the computer is switched on again, the operating will signal the peripherals with a special command to wake up. This command is unfortunately not correctly handled, causing the Handyscope HS3 / Handyscope HS4 / Handyscope HS4 DIFF not to wake up properly.

To avoid this problem:

  • really switch off the computer and do not put it into stand-by or hibernation, or
  • unplug the instrument before putting the computer into stand-by or hibernation and plug it back in after waking up the computer.
