Modular system

The MultiScopes use a modular system where each MultiScope is built of two or more Handyscopes that are combined using the unique CMI Combine Multiple Instrument synchronization interface. All that is required is a simple cable to connect the CMI interfaces of the individual units to each other. Once the connection is made, the software will detect it and combine the units in the software to a large combined instrument, measuring fully synchronized on all channels.

The CMI interface contains a high speed sample clock bus takes care that each WiFiScope and/or Handyscope is fully synchronized to ensure that even at the highest sampling rate the instruments operate at the same sample clock (0 ppm clock error!). The high speed sample clock bus is automatically configured and terminated at the beginning and end of the bus.

Apart from a sample clock bus, the CMI also contains a trigger bus. This allows to trigger on any channel of the combined instrument, as well as any of the internal generator trigger sources, when instrument with a generator are combined. The high speed trigger bus is also automatically terminated with the correct impedance at the beginning and end of the bus.

Via the communication bus, the CMI synchronization interface supports automatic recognition of the instruments. It has built-in intelligence to detect the connections, so instruments can be connected to each other in random order. The connection order when combining multiple instruments is not important. Placing terminators and determining the proper connection order is not required!

Advantages of the CMI (Combine Multiple Instruments) synchronization interface are:

  • automatic instrument recognition,
  • automatic creation and termination of the high speed trigger bus,
  • automatic creation and termination of the high speed sampling bus,
  • automatic master/slave setting of the sampling clock bus.

If more channels are required, simply add another unit and connect it via its CMI interface to the other units. The software will detect the new connection and add the instrument to the combined instrument, providing even more input channels.

Each MultiScope is a set of two or more instruments and the required coupling cables.

Wireless modular system

When the test subjects that need to be being measured are located further apart, the MultiScopes can use a wireless modular system. The individual instruments are then equipped with the unique WCMI modules that provide a wireless synchronization.

All that is required is a small module connected to the extension connector of each of the instruments. These WCMI modules communicate with each other and synchronize the sampling clocks and triggers of the instruments The software will detect the modules and combine the units in the software to a large combined instrument, measuring fully synchronized on all channels.

Advantages of the WCMI (Wireless Combine Multiple Instruments) synchronization modules are:

  • long distances up to 400 m possible between individual units,
  • galvanic isolation between individual units,
  • automatic synchronization of sampling clocks,
  • automatic sharing of triggers

If more channels are required, simply add another unit and plug a WCMI modules on it. The software will detect the new connection and add the instrument to the combined instrument, providing even more input channels.
